Job description

As an intern, you will support IDH in the implementation of the Action Plan “Agri-trade – Secure, Resilient and Sustainable.” This plan is a joint initiative of IDH, VNO-NCW, and the Ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) and Foreign Affairs (BZ).

The objective of the Action Plan is to strengthen international agri-trade by increasing the resilience, sustainability, and continuity of global value chains. The proposed actions position the Netherlands and its international partners to effectively respond to geopolitical tensions, climate change, and market risks, while simultaneously contributing to global food security. Within this initiative, governments, businesses, and civil society organizations work together on robust, responsible, and fair-trade structures.

Responsibilities

As an intern, you will contribute to the implementation of the Action Plan through research, coordination, and communication activities. There is room for personal initiative, and tasks can be tailored in consultation to your interests and learning objectives.

The role includes, among other things:

  • Supporting the preparation and organization of conferences and meetings;
  • Contributing to research and substantive analyses;
  • Supporting communication activities aimed at internal and external stakeholders.
  • In this role, you will gain practical experience with sustainable value chains, multi-stakeholder collaborations, and public–private initiatives in the field of international trade and food security.


We are open to a research-focused internship for this position.

Job requirements

  • You are currently enrolled in a university (master’s) program in Agriculture/Food, International Relations, Environmental Sciences, Economics, or a related field;
  • You have an interest in international trade, development cooperation, and public–private partnerships;
  • Advanced language skills in Dutch and English, in speaking and reading (CEFR-level C1) as well as writing (Dutch B2; English C1) 
  • You are communicative and demonstrate initiative, creativity, and organisational skills.
  • You are available for at least four days per week for a minimum period of five months. The intended start date for this internship is as soon as possible (no later than March).


Candidates should be EU nationals or have permission to work in the Netherlands. Please note that you must be a registered student when applying and meet the qualifications set by your university to accept an internship.

This internship is expected to be a full-time internship lasting 6 months, starting as soon as possible. We offer a monthly internship fee, which is a living wage equivalent stipend, of 1120 euro.
