Job description

The Junior Derivatives Trader is an entry-level position within the Derivatives team designed to develop future trading talent.

In this role, you will build a strong foundation in:

  • Commodity derivatives trading (futures, options, swaps, OTC structures)
  • Dairy market fundamentals and global supply & demand dynamics
  • Macro-economic drivers impacting commodity and financial markets
  • Risk management principles and trading psychology
  • Data analysis and quantitative tools used in trading

You will support the derivatives team in daily trading, analytics and client-related activities while progressively developing the skills required to independently manage trading risk.

Responsibilities

Trading Support & Market Analysis

  • Support traders in execution, monitoring and reporting of derivatives positions
  • Assist in managing parts of the local dairy derivatives book under supervision
  • Monitor futures, options and OTC markets and provide daily market updates
  • Prepare weekly dairy market analysis and macro-economic summaries
  • Develop price forecasts and scenario analyses to support trading decisions
  • Track market positioning, volatility developments and spread relationships
  • Enter and reconcile trades in internal systems.

Learning & Development in Derivatives Trading

Develop a structured understanding of:

  • Dairy commodity fundamentals
  • Macro-economic drivers (rates, FX, inflation, geopolitics)
  • Futures and options mechanics
  • Volatility, Greeks and option structures
  • Arbitrage and spread trading strategies
  • Risk metrics (VaR, position limits, option limits)

Data, Systems & Quantitative Skills

  • Use Python and analytical tools to analyze spreads and correlations, build dashboards, improve reporting efficiency and back test trading ideas
  • Maintain dashboards in Tableau and other BI tools
  • Ensure accurate position reporting and data integrity
  • Contribute to improvement projects related to tooling and automation

Customer Engagement & Commercial collaboration

  • Support physical traders in understanding and managing price risk
  • Prepare materials for client meetings and internal discussions
  • Help structure preliminary OTC hedging ideas
  • Take detailed notes during client and broker meetings
  • Contribute to presentations explaining derivatives and risk management solutions

Job requirements

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with emphasis in Mathematics, Finance, Economics or (business) management. Internship or thesis exposure to trading, derivatives, macro or data analysis is a plus.
    • Strong interest in financial markets and/or commodities trading.
    • Basic experience with programming languages.
    • Basic experience with execution on electronic trading platforms.
    • Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
    • Interest in working with data, developing algorithms, structured products.
    • Strong analytical curiosity and quantitative affinity.
    • Excellent command of English and a second language is preferred.
    • Self-reflective and motivated to continuously develop.
    • Strong team player with high integrity. Interest in working with and having an awareness and understanding of different cultures, personalities, and working styles.
    • Resilient and emotionally stable under pressure. Clear communicator who asks questions and seeks feedback.
