Job description

The Commercial Gas Operations team is part of a wider Shell Energy Singapore (SES) Operations team responsible for day-to-day management of SES commercial activities in Singapore.

The team manages gas demand from all SES’ long-term and short-term buyers, including analyzing and anticipating the offtake trend, working closely with Shell LNG Marketing & Trading’s (SLMT) Short Term team to optimize the cargo delivery and maximize the flexibility in accessing terminal storage capacity. This requires thorough understanding of the commercial aspects of all the contracts (i.e. GSAs, TUA, TICA, SPA, etc.) and build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to negotiate such optimization arrangements, some of which go beyond the contractual rights.

A Commercial Gas Operator is constantly expected to create value for the business, including but not limited to the following:

  • Manage gas demand, LNG cargo scheduling, terminal/pipeline capacity, gas nominations, and LNG inventory.
  • Develop forecasting tools, provide operational solutions to free tank capacity for short‑term opportunities, and investigate operational issues to prevent profit leakage.
  • Ensure contract and regulatory compliance while negotiating with stakeholders to resolve operational gaps and improve value.

Responsibilities

Key roles and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Ensure full operational compliance and governance: Maintain adherence to Shell’s internal standards, HSSE requirements, and all contractual, licensing, and regulatory obligations (GSAs, TUA, TICA, SPA, shipper licenses), including correct and timely billing.
  • Protect and optimize enterprise‑wide value: Analyze buyers’ gas offtake, monitor nominations and schedules across all time horizons, and optimize LNG inventory and cargo deliveries to maximize commercial flexibility and value.
  • Strengthen stakeholder and market relationships: Build and sustain strong engagement with terminals, suppliers, buyers, regulatory bodies, pipeline operators, vessel owners, and broader energy‑market counterparts to preserve Shell’s market position and resolve operational gaps.
  • Drive operational excellence and issue resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues across the LNG value chain, coordinate daily activities with internal and external parties, and design/update business processes and procedures.
  • Support commercial growth and execution: Provide operational input for new projects, contracts, and spot cargoes while operating nomination systems and managing after‑hours duties to ensure seamless, compliant, and reliable operations.

Job requirements

  • Knowledge of LNG industry concepts, Singapore’s gas/power market, and pipeline networks.
  • Experience with Gas Sales Agreements, LNG SPAs, Terminal Use Agreements, and the Singapore Gas Network Code.
  • Strong commercial awareness of LNG trading, terminal operations, and inventory management.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency with ability to manage and analyze large data volumes and complex IT systems, supported by strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and adaptability in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent relationship‑management and communication skills, paired with a proactive problem‑solving mindset and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Role is expected to respond flexibly to requests out of normal office hours, and requires periodic/scheduled work during evenings, weekends & holidays.
