Our history

Founded in 1887 as Royal Frans Swarttouw, rebranded to HES (Haven en Scheepvaart — "Port and Shipping") in 1908. Over a century of growth through acquisitions and new terminal development. Now jointly owned 50/50 by Macquarie and Goldman Sachs infrastructure funds.

Our operations

Terminals in the Netherlands (Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Europoort, Vlissingen, Terneuzen), Germany (Wilhelmshaven), Poland (Gdynia), and France (Fos-sur-Mer). Services include storage, transhipment, blending, screening, and processing. Liquid bulk covers fuels, biofuels, bitumen, and chemicals. Dry bulk includes iron ore, coal, agri commodities, minerals, and biomass. Break bulk handles steel coils and heavy project cargo like wind turbine components.
